I’m working on a psychology question and need an explanation to help me learn.comment on student post below Physician‐assisted suicideshould be legal and available to those who choose to use itPhysician‐assisted suicide should be legal and available to those who choose to use it. The claim has been an issue of concern all over the world. Physicians end individuals’ lives by legally prescribing to them certain medication. Apparently, euthanasia is legal in some states (Baker, Sharpe, & Lauks, 2016). However, there are still arguments on whether to legalize physician assisted suicide. Supporters of the claim are driven by the perspective that dying is a gesture of respect. Opponents believe that assisted suicide does not respect morality and religion. Physicians also differ when it comes to this decision, on the grounds that this act is not different from killing. For some people, euthanasia is murder while for others, it is a relief from pain and suffering. On the other hand, today’s technology has played a significant role in prolonging people’s lives for instance, the use of support systems such as respirators sustain patients (Baker, Sharpe, & Lauks, 2016). However, these systems benefit those patients that have chances of surviving. For those who do not, the systems just prolong their suffering. In addition, there are people who do not support the idea of assisted suicide but believe that if one has to end their lives, they should do it by themselves.
