It is important to be a nurse leader that can motivate, inspire, and be fair towards all team members. Nurse leaders who are authentic are able to be honest and open in their relationships with individuals to whom they report, as well as those who work for them. Their sense of integrity also facilitates, actually mandates, their need to seek diverse perspectives from others and use multiple sources of evidence when making an important decision (Broome, & Marshall, 2021). Nursing is the moral center of health care and inspires continued ethical care and compassion. Clinical nurse leaders are at the forefront of individuals charged with helping to guide the way to a better health care system (Vera, 2020). The results from my StrengthFinder assessment reported that my leadership themes were individualization or having a gift for figuring out how to get different people to work together productively. Second, was empathy which is sensing other feelings and being able image oneself in their situation. Third is an achiever that likes being busy and productive. Fourth is a developer that recognizes small improvements and gives recognition to others. Lastly, there is input where a person collects and archives information, relationships, ideas and artifacts (Rath, 2007). Two core value I would like to strengthen based on my StrengthsFinder assessment results are personal development and service. I want to continue to gain knowledge and grow in my skills to ensure I provide the best quality care possible. Continuing my education will help me serve the community and others. Two strengths I would improve upon are confidence and communication. Building confidence in myself and my skills will enhance my communication skills. Being able to effectively communicate ensures everyone’s voice is heard even if the parties involved are not on the same page. Two characteristics I would like to strengthen are the ability to delegate and empowerment. I tend to not delegate many tasks because I am used to doing things myself which can cause undue stress on myself. Confidence and empowerment go hand in hand for me. Building confidence will help me feel more empowered to take on more challenges and opportunities. I plan to use the StrengthsFinders assessment results to improve my leadership qualities. Leading with your values means sharing them, using them as the “why,” and living them as an example to all.
